Mustangs Get Win #2 in Double Header
The Mustangs had to sit through a game between Boys Ranch and Shamrock before getting back out on the field. They originally thought the game would start around 2:30, but I think it was closer to five when the started. I can't really remember. The Mustangs took the field as the home team against the Fighting Irish from Shamrock. Austin Miller started on the mound with Dustin Ford behind the plate. The Irish got things going with a single and then a walk. A fielder's choice hit went to Miller who threw-out the lead runner. A single to center that rolled threw the legs of the outfielder, scored two runs. A walk got another runner on. Miller followed up with a strikeout for out number two. Two more walks brought in a runner. The runner on third was then thrown out from a Ford to Brady Baggett throw. Devin Cornell started things off by drawing a walk. Kaleb Wood then hit the fence for a double to score Cornell. Ford reached on a dropped ball strike three, moving the runner. Wood then scored on a passed ball by the catcher. Baggett reached the bags on a walk. After a pop-up caught by the second baseman, Ransom Hollingsworth hit a double to left field, scoring two. Ty Owens followed him with a double for himself, scoring Hollingsworth. Miller and Tyler Peden also came up with RBI singles. A 6-3 throw out got the second out of the game. Wood got on with a base on balls. Ford then came up and hit a pop fly that landed in between the third baseman and shortstop. However, an out was called on Peden for apparently yelling at the fielder's. His plan worked, but the ump called him for interference to end the inning. The score at the end of the first was 7-3 Mustangs. The Mustangs did a great job in the second inning as well. Miller started things off by getting a strikeout. An Irish followed up with a single, but he never made it home as Miller got another strikeout ans a throw out to Peden. At the bottom of the second Baggett and Tyree got a double and single respectively when the Shamrock coach decided he needed a new pitcher. Hollingsworth hit off the new pitcher reaching on an error, with another run scoring. Owens came through again and hit another RBI double. A 4-3 throw out got the Mustangs their first out. Peden then hit the fence for a double, which was followed by a double from Cornell. An error allowed Wood to reach. Ford and Baggett each took a hit by pitch to reach the bags. A questionable strikeout got out number two for the Mustangs. Hollingsworth got a single to keep things going. Owens, Miller, and Peden all took walks to get on the bags, before a fly-out to center field ended the inning. Five Mustangs scored on passed balls by the catcher in the at bat. The score at the end of the second was 17-3. Peden came in the top of the third as catcher for Miller. The Irish started off with a double to right-center. A walk allowed another runner on the bags, but Miller followed with a strikeout. The runner on third kept getting a big lead off of third, and Peden threw to Baggett twice trying to keep him honest. The third time Peden came up to throw, the runner broke for home. Baggett chased him and met the ball down the line. A pickle ensued and the runner was tagged out for a 2-5-2-5-1 tag out. Miller then turned his focus back to the batter and rang him up for out number three. Wood started the bottom of the third with a double. Skarke and Baggett drew walks, before Nichols hit a single scoring Wood. Hayden Hook came in and an infield fly rule was called on his hot for out one. Owens was then hit by the pitch to bring a run in. A strikeout got out number two, before Jesse Mullins stepped to the plate for a RBI single. Cornell also followed with an RBI single. Codie Shaw came in to bat for Wood, but he wasn't able to connect with the ball and got out number three. The score at the end of the third was 22-3 Mustangs. Miller and the Mustang defense stayed strong not wanting to let up. Miller struck out two quickly before allowing a walk. A hit back to Miller got the third out to retire the side. Skarke and Tyson Garner both took walks to get on the bases. They didn't get to make it very far though. A 6-3 throw out got the Irish their first out. A pop-up caught by the catcher led to out two. Brandon Sims got a chance at the plate, but he couldn't connect either and the Irish got their third out. The score remained 22-3. The Mustangs just needed three outs and not to have another Follett. Miller started off with two quick strikeouts. A walk and a hit by pitch got runners on the bags, but Miller came back and got out number three with a strikeout. The Mustangs stayed focused and took care of business to win 22-3. The Mustangs did a great job all the way around again. Getting doubles for the Mustangs were Cornell, Wood (2), Baggett, Hollingsworth, Owens (2), and Peden. The boys had 14 RBIs. Miller did a great job on the mound striking out 10 and allowing 3 runs on 5 hits.
