Mustangs lose close one against Booker
The Mustangs traveled all the way up to Booker on April 21, for a make-up weather day. Well the umps didn't get scheduled somehow and before they knew what was going on the boys were loaded back on the bus, after waiting around, and were heading to Perryton to play. It was getting dark and they needed a field that had lights. I believe that game may have started like at 6:15 or something like that. All the traveling definitely left the Mustangs drained and they could never get much going to generate many runs. The Mustangs started with two going down quickly. Dustin Ford tried to get things going with a single. Brady Baggett followed him with a double. A 6-3 throw-out ended the spark. Devin Cornell started on the mound with Ford behind the plate. An error got things off on the wrong foot for the Mustangs. A strikeout got the first out, before two more batters drew walks. Another error allowed a run to score, before the Mustangs got their last two outs courtesy of Cornell and Skarke. The Mustangs couldn't get anything going in the top of the second going down 1, 2, 3. The Kiowas started off with a single that was followed by an error to have two on. A strikeout got the first out before a fielder's choice go the lead runner for out number two. The next batter hit a single to score another run. On the next batter Ty Owens caught a fly ball for out number three. The Mustangs once again couldn't get anything going with only Kaleb Wood reaching on a walk. The Mustangs buckled down in the bottom of the third for a quick three up, three down. The top of the fourth was the same as before with only Ransom Hollingsworth reaching the bags off of a single. The Mustangs allowed a runner on in the bottom of the fourth with an error. A pop-up to Baggett was caught for out number one. A walk followed, with outs two and three coming next. The Mustangs came alive in the top of the fifth to finally score some runs. Tyler Peden started things off by drawing a walk. A strikeout got the first out, and then Cornell hit into a fielder's choice that got Peden thrown out. Wood then hit a single to score Cornell. Ford followed and got a RBI single as well. Baggett hit a chopper that went over the left basemen's heads for a single. Jeff Tyree then hit a single to score Ford. A fly-out ended the inning. The Kiowas answered the Mustangs in the bottom of the fifth. A walk got a runner on the bags before two singles allowed a runner to score. A strikeout retired a batter for the first out. A double then scored two more for the Kiowas before two batters went down on strikeouts. The Mustangs went down 1, 2, 3, in the top of the sixth. Owens did get a double, but was thrown out on the bases. The Kiowas added another run in the bottom of the sixth. A walk got the first batter on the bases. The Mustangs retired two courtesy of Ford, Cornell, and Skarke. An error allowed a run to score, before a pop-up was caught by Baggett to end the inning. The Mustangs had one more chance to extend the game. They just couldn't generate anything and went down 1, 2, 3, for third time to end the game. The Mustangs lost their third straight 3-6. The Kiowas played a near perfect game to hold the Mustangs this time around. Hitting doubles for the Mustangs were Baggett and Owens. Cornell 10 strikeouts on the day. It was another tough loss for the Mustangs.
