Mustang's Season Begins

Mustang hardball has returned. I'm not sure I'm completely over the ending of last season. It was a tough ending to a great season of baseball. Many players have returned this year, and I hope they are hungry for redemption.

As usual, the Mustangs were unable to have their Alumni game, but this time it wasn't because of the weather. The Mustang Basketball team did an amazing job this year and fought their way into the playoffs for the first time in several years. They did an awesome job, and I was sad to see their playoff run end so early.

In typical small school athlete style there is no rest for the weary. The basketball boys played their playoff game on Tuesday, February 18, and on February 21, the baseball boys were on their way to Post for a tournament. We are now 7 games into the season with a record of 3-4. A fruit basket turnover in positions has happened this year, and nobody seems to be stuck in one spot this year. The boys are going to have to be well rounded and ready to play anywhere at any moment. The Mustangs have faced some good talent so far, and have lost in close contests, so there is much to grow on.

District play begins on Saturday, March 8 against West Texas High School. Normally district play starts after Spring Break, but Gruver has joined our district bumping everything up. We won't be full force for the first two district games, but hopefully after that we stay healthy, here, and ready to play. There are many good teams in the district, but the Mustangs can take them all down. If you haven't already seen a schedule it can be found on Claude ISD's website.

Best of luck Mustangs! Here's to another great season.

Mustangs Fall

The Mustangs traveled the short distance to Clarendon on Saturday, April 13, for another windy baseball game. I honestly do not know what to say about the game, other than that the Mustangs never really got going.

Zach Johnson started the game off with a single passed the shortstop. However, a double play ball erased him from the bases. A fly out to left had the Mustangs going down 1, 2, 3.
Tate Wilkerson started on the mound for the Mustangs with Bradley Cornell behind the plate. The Mustang defense started rough allowing the first two batters to reach on errors. A walk loaded the bases for the Broncos. Two strikeouts from Wilkerson, made it seem like the Mustangs were going to make it out unscathed, but a hit by pitch allowed the first run to score. The next batter hit a single to right that allowed two more runs to cross. A walk once again loaded the bases, but the 9-hole batter hit a pop fly that was caught by shortstop Tyler Peden for the final out. After 1 the Mustangs were down 0-3.

In the top of the second, Seth Skarke led off and reached on an error. Cornell hit a double down the left field line to have two in scoring position. Maison Mays hit a sac fly to right to score Skarke. During the next at bat the catcher tried to pick off Cornell and made a throwing error that brought Cornell across the plate. A pop up and a fly out retired the sides before the Mustangs could get any more offense going.
The first Bronco batter hit a ball up the right field line that had a throw out from Skarke to Wilkerson. The next batter hit a double to left, but the Mustangs stayed strong defensively. Back to back outs came courtesy of a ground out from Logan Johnson to Skarke and a strikeout from Wilkerson. The score was now 2-3.

Bailey Morrow got things going in the top of third by reaching on an error by the right fielder. Z. Johnson got on the bags with a walk. Peden then reached on a fielder's choice that had Z. Johnson out at two. Wilkerson reached on an infield single that had the Bronco defense confused. An error during the same play allowed Morrow to score. However, trying to get an extra base, Peden was thrown out at third. Skarke then hit a single right up the middle to get a runner in scoring position, but another fly out ended any sort of run for the Mustangs.
A hit by pitch started the bottom of the third. A pop up caught by Peden got the first out. Two walks  loaded the bases once again for the Broncos. The Mustangs fought back with a rare 4-2-3 double play by L. Johnson, Cornell, and Skarke to get out of the jam. After the three the score was tied at 3 all.

Mays hit a nice line drive to right for a double to begin the top of the fourth, but no one could get anything going behind him. A ground out and two strikeouts quickly ended the inning.
The first Bronco batter got on with a single to right. A strikeout got the first out for the Mustangs. An error then allowed the next batter on. The lead runner tried to get to home off of the error, but a head's up play by Skarke had the runner out at home from a throw to Cornell. Three passed balls and a walk allowed another run to score. A pop up caught by Skarke ended the fourth with Mustangs down 3-4.

A groundout got the first out of the fifth inning. Peden hit a line drive single to right to reach. Wilkerson got on with a hit by pitch. A single to left center by Skarke scored Peden. Cornell then laid down a sac bunt to move two runners into scoring position, but a ground out stopped the Mustangs from getting anymore across.
A single lead off hit had the first batter. The runner was completely blind sided as he was quickly picked off on a throw from Wilkerson to Skarke. Two ground outs got the next two outs courtesy of Mays, L. Johnson, and Peden. After 5, the was knotted again at 4.

The Mustangs couldn't get anything going in the top of the sixth. They went down 1, 2, 3 in 7 pitches. Two on fly balls and one a ball hit at the first baseman.
     L. Johnson made the first out of the game with a snagged line drive hit by the first batter. Back to back errors had two Bronco batters reaching with one crossing the plate. Skarke took over on the mound. A passed ball allowed a second run to score for Clarendon. A pop up caught by L. Johnson got the second out, and a strikeout from Skarke got the final out. Mustangs were down 4-6.

The Mustangs were down to their final at bat. Z. Johnson was able to reach on an error by the second baseman. However, two ground outs and a fly out ended the game. The Mustangs lost 4-6.

Wilkerson had 4 strikeouts on the day and Skarke had one. Hitting doubles for the Mustangs were Cornell and Mays. The Mustangs now sit tied for 2nd with a district record of 5-2.

Mustangs Take Down #8 in the State

The Mustangs went to battle on Monday, April 8, against the Kiowas from Booker. It was a huge game for the Mustangs. Winning meant tying for a share of the district crown, while losing would mean staying in second. The weather was typical for Texas Panhandle weather...WINDY!

Seth Skarke started on the mound with Bradley Cornell behind the plate. A pop up got the first out of the game caught by Tate Wilkerson. A single to short right got the first Booker runner on. A fielder's choice had the runner out at second on a Tyler Peden to Wilkerson throw out. A fielding error on the next hit ball had the first run of the game. Another fielder's choice had an out at second, this time on a throw from Wilkerson to Peden.
Zach Johnson did his job and got on with a walk to start the offense for the Mustangs. Peden got a single to right to have two on. Wilkerson then bombed the ball for a three run home run. A strikeout got the first out. Cornell reached when he hit a single to left. He was then thrown out on a stolen base attempt at second. Maison Mays got on with a walk, but during the next at bat he was also thrown out on a stolen base attempt at second to end the inning. After 1, the score was 3-1.

The first Kiowa batter reached on a walk. The next batter hit a fielder's choice that had Peden throwing to Wilkerson for an out. The runner on first was then thrown out trying to steal second by a throw from Cornell and a tag from Peden. A ground out from Wilkerson to Logan Johnson got the last out for a three up three down inning.
     L. Johnson got things going with a single to center. Teron Webb bunted into a fielder's choice that had L. Johnson out at second. A strikeout got the second out. Z. Johnson made it safely to first after a dropped third strike. A single to left by Peden had Webb scoring. A deep fly ball was caught to wrap up the second inning. The Mustangs remained on top 4-1.

The Mustangs got two quick outs in the top of the third. There was a ground out from Peden to L. Johnson and a pop up caught by Mays. A walk followed by an error allowed a Kiowa runner to get into scoring position. A double was hit that scored another run for Booker. Skarke got a strikeout to retire the sides.
A ground out was followed by Cornell hitting a double to left. A single up the middle by Mays saw Cornell crossing the plate. A line drive caught by the pitcher had the Kiowas turning a double play to end the third. After three, the score was 5-2.

The top of the fourth started with a pop up caught by Peden. An error on the next ball hit had a runner on board. A pop up caught by L. Johnson had out number two. A double was then hit to right to score a run. It was followed by a single to short right. Another fielding error saw another run score, before Skarke got a strikeout to send the Mustangs in.
Webb got on with a base on balls, followed by two strikeouts. Peden also reached on a walk, but nothing got going for the Mustangs as another strikeout ended the inning. The score was 5-4.

Two walks put the first two Booker batters on. A strikeout recorded the first out, followed by a sac bunt that had the batter out on a throw from Skarke to L. Johnson. The next batter hit a single to left center that scored two Kiowas, and had them taking the lead. A hit by pitch put another runner on the bases. A single to center scored one more run for Booker. A walk loaded the bases, but the next batter hit a ground ball that was fielded by L. Johnson.
Playing from behind now the Mustangs got down to business. A line out got the first out in the bottom of the fifth. Cornell started things with a ground rule double over left center. Mays hit an infield single to have two on. L. Johnson stepped up and hit a shot over the left field fence for a three run homer. There was a lot of controversy over the hit as to if it actually went over or bounced over. In the end, the umps ruled that it cleared the fenced. Webb hit an infield single to get on and then a ground out had Booker changing pitchers. Z. Johnson was the first to face the new pitcher and he got a big hit to left center for a double that scored Webb. Peden drew a walk, and then Wilkerson hit a double down the left field line to score Z. Johnson and Peden all the way from first. A pop up sent the Mustangs back out on defense. With five gone the score was 11-7.

The Mustangs kept the momentum up and got three outs quickly. The first two came from ground outs from Skarke to L. Johnson. A single to left and an error put a runner on. However, he got caught too far from the bag and was picked off on a throw from Skarke to Peden.
In the bottom of the sixth Cornell hit a ball that took a big bounce over the center field fence for a ground rule double. Mays reached on an error by the shortstop. A fly ball caught in center found Mays not tagged up and out at first. Cornell was sent home in the mayhem, but he was also thrown out to end the inning. The score remained 11-7.

The Mustangs needed to hold on for three outs. The first Booker batter reached on a hit by pitch. A pop up caught by Wilkerson had the first out. The next batter hit a fielder's choice that had Wilkerson throwing to Peden for the out at second. A walk turned the line over with two on. Skarke battled through and wrung up the last batter for the win. Mustangs won 11-7.

Skarke went the distance throwing a lot of pitches and striking out four. Cornell went 4 for 4 hitting three doubles. Also hitting doubles were Z. Johnson and Wilkerson. L. Johnson got a home run for the Mustangs. It was a great match-up and game to watch. The Mustangs are now tied for 1st with a 5-1 district record.

Mustangs Put on a Home Run Derby Routing Follett

The Mustangs made the long trip to Follett on Friday, April 5, to take on the Panthers. It was super windy, but what else is new.

Zach Johnson got the Mustangs going with a hit by pitch. Tyler Peden reached the bases on a walk, before Tate Wilkerson rocked the ball over the fence for his first home run. Seth Skarke followed with a double before a pop up got the first out. Maison Mays drew a walk to get on, and then Logan Johnson stepped to the plate and put a ball over the fence for his first home run of the season. Jesse Mullins got four balls to get on the bags before Bailey Morrow put some muscle behind the ball for the third home run of the inning, and his first of the season. Z. Johnson came back up and drew a walk. Peden hit a single to center to score Z. Johnson. Wilkerson then doubled to center to score Peden. Skarke drew a walk, before a strikeout got the second out. Mays also drew a walk to load the bases. With the bases juiced, L. Johnson blasted his second home run for a grand slam. A strikeout got the final out for the Panthers.
Wilkerson started on the mound with Cornell behind the plate. A single to center got the first Panther batter on. A ground out from Cornell to Skarke got the first out. A walk put another runner on, before a fielder's choice from L. Johnson to Skarke had the second out and the first run in for Follett. During the next at bat the runner on second was caught stealing and was thrown out by Cornell to Mays. After the first inning, the score was 14-1.

To start the top of the second, Morrow got on with a hit by a pitch. Z. Johnson came to the plate and belted the ball for his own home run. Peden reached on a walk before Wilkerson got his second home run of the game. Skarke doubled to center, followed by Cornell drawing a walk. A strikeout and an infield fly go the first two outs. Skarke was then picked off at second.
The first batter for Follett reached on a walk, but Wilkerson buckled down and struck out the next three batters to end the second inning. With two in the books, the score was 18-1.

Mullins reached an error, followed by Morrow hitting a double to left. Z. Johnson reached on a fielder's choice that had Mullins thrown out at home. Peden got an infield single to have the bases loaded. Wilkerson sac bunted to score Morrow. Skarke reached on a hit by pitch, and then Cornell reached on a fielding error that scored Z. Johnson. Peden scored on a passed ball during Mays' at bat. Mays got on the bags with a walk before a pop up retired the sides.
A ground out to Wilkerson started the bottom of the third. An error allowed a runner on, and then Wilkerson got a strikeout. A hit by pitch had two Panthers on, but Wilkerson got another strikeout to end the third. After three innings the Mustangs lead 21-1.

Brandon Sims started the top of the fourth by drawing a walk. Taylor Austin came to the plate next and got an infield single. A fly out for the first out was followed by a single from Peden to load the bases. A strikeout got out number two. Skarke took a hit by pitch to score Sims. Cornell hit a single to left to score Austin. Mays then got a bunt single to score Peden. L. Johnson stepped to the plate once more and rocked his third home run, and his second grand slam of the game. A strikeout sent the defense onto the field.
     L. Johnson took over on the mound in the bottom of the fourth. A strikeout got the first out. The next batter reached on an error, but the Mustangs were able to go 1,2,3 when they turned a double play courtesy of Wilkerson, Peden, and Skarke for the 4-6-3. After four, the score was 28-1.

Austin reached on four balls. Z. Johnson got a bunt single to have two on. Peden laid down a sac bunt to advance the runners. Skarke also put down a bunt that had everyone safe and Austin scoring. Cornell reached on a fielder's choice that had Z. Johnson out at home. A caught foul tip switched the sides.
     L. Johnson started off with a strikeout. A walk put a runner on, but a ground out from L. Johnson to Skarke and a strikeout from L. Johnson got the final outs of the game. The Mustangs won 29-1.

Wilkerson had 5 strikeouts on the day and L. Johnson had 3. The Mustangs racked up the stats at the plate. Hitting doubles for the Mustangs were Wilkerson, Skarke (2), and Morrow. 7 home runs were belted for the Mustangs! Hitting bombs were Z. Johnson, Wilkerson (2), L. Johnson (3), and Morrow. Keep eating you Wheaties guys! After the first round of district, the Mustangs sat in 2nd at 4-1.

Mustangs Have Too Much Offense For Shamrock

The Mustangs were back at home on Monday, April 1, to take on the Irish of Shamrock. The game was windy and cold, after having nice weather earlier in the day.

Tate Wilkerson started on the mound for the Mustangs with Bradley Cornell behind the plate. Things got off to a rough start seeing four straight Shamrock batters reach on walks, with one crossing home. Seth Skarke quickly took over on the mound. A strikeout got the first much needed out for the Mustangs. A single to right brought two more runners across to score. A fielder's choice had the batter out at first on a throw from Wilkerson to L. Johnson, but another run scored. Skarke followed with a strikeout to get the Mustangs out of that inning.
The Mustangs shook off the start of the game to get their bats going. Zach Johnson started things off with a walk. Tyler Peden took one for the team and reached on a hit by pitch. Wilkerson got a sac fly to score Z. Johnson, and Skarke hit a fielder's choice to score Peden. Cornell hit a single to short right, and Maison Mays drew a base on balls. Both runners moved around the bases to get into scoring position, and on a Teron Webb single to right both Cornell and Mays scored. Taylor Austin got four balls to get on the bases. Webb scored on a passed ball by the catcher, and Austin was able to score on a balk. That brought on a new pitcher for Shamrock. Morrow drew a walk from the new pitcher to reach, but a pop-up ended the inning. After one, the score was 6-4.

The Mustangs made quick work of the Irish going three up three down. Skarke struck out two, and Wilkerson threw one out at first.
Peden drew a base on balls to start the bottom of the second. A pop up caught by the pitcher got the first out. Skarke roped a double to right center to score Peden. Another pop up and a ground out sent the Mustangs back onto the field. The score was 7-4.

Back to back ground balls were fielded cleanly by L. Johnson at first for two put outs. A walk allowed the next batter to reach. The next batter reached on a fielding error. However, after a quick recovery from Morrow, an absolute textbook perfect relay ensued. Morrow to Peden to Cornell to throw out the runner going into home. It was beautiful, and left the Shamrock coach so stunned he just stood a gawked!
Webb got on the bags with a walk, and then stole second and third to move into scoring position. Austin reached on an error that allowed Webb to score, and him to get on second. After a fly out, Z. Johnson got on with a walk. Austin stole third and on the attempt to throw him out the catcher made a throwing error. This allowed Austin to come home safely. A sac fly from Peden brought Z. Johnson across. A ground out ended the inning. After 3, the score was 10-4.

Two walks got two runners on. The runner on second got caught too far off the bag and got tagged in a run down from Skarke to Peden to Mays. After another walk, a fielder's choice had the runner out at second and a run across. A single to short right scored another run for Shamrock. A fielding error allowed another run to cross before a strikeout.
The bottom of the fourth started with Skarke getting hit by a pitch. A fly ball got the first out. A single to left center by Mays scored Skarke. Webb had an infield single, that on the throw had an error that allowed Mays to score. A fielder's choice had the next out for the Mustangs. Morrow started a two out rally by hitting a single to left to score Webb. A single by Z. Johnson had two runners on. Peden stepped up to the plate and blasted a triple to right field to score Morrow and Z. Johnson. Wilkerson got on with a hit by pitch before Skarke hit a single to right that scored Peden and Wilkerson. Cornell hit a single up the middle to reach. An error by the second baseman allowed Mays to reach and Skarke to score. Webb came to the plate next and rocked a ball to deep right field for an In-the-Park Home run that scored Cornell, Mays, and Webb. Austin hit a single to right, before a line drive was snagged to end the inning. The Mustangs lead 21-7.

The top of the fifth started with a walk. It was followed by a put out by L. Johnson. A single to short right had two runners on. A strikeout got out number two, before a walk loaded the bases. A strikeout from Skarke ended the game before any Irish could come home. Mustangs won 21-7.

Skarke had 7 strikeouts in the game and hit a double. Peden got a triple for the Mustangs, and Webb got a home run.

Mustangs get a Good Friday win

The Mustangs traveled to Stinnett to take on West Texas High on Friday, March 29. This was the 3rd game of the Mustangs MLB-like schedule. The weather couldn't make up its mind about what it wanted to do, but it was a pretty nice day overall.

It was a different sort of pitching than the Mustangs normally see. Two pop-ups took down the first two Mustang batters. Tate Wilkerson was able to reach on an error to get the Mustangs on base. Seth Skarke came to the plate and belted a double to left to score Wilkerson. A strikeout retired the side for the Mustangs.
Seth Skarke started on the mound with Tyler Peden behind the plate. Two errors got the first to WT batters on the bases. With a quick throw from Skarke to shortstop Wilkerson, the runner on second was picked off. The next batter hit into a 5-4-3 double play courtesy of Maison Mays, Logan Johnson, and Bailey Morrow. After 1, the score was 1-0.

Once again the Mustangs came out a bit impatient at the plate. A fly out and ground out got two quick outs. Jesse Mullins stepped to plate and hit a single to center. Morrow followed with reaching on a hit by pitch. For the final out, Z. Johnson rocked a ball to center and the center fielder just stuck his glove up and snagged it.
The Mustangs stayed solid on defense getting two quick outs of their own on ground outs from Skarke to Morrow. A walk got a Comanche runner on, before a Skarke strikeout ended the 2nd inning.

A fly out to center got the first out, before Wilkerson hit a double. A ground out got the second out for the Mustangs. Mays hit a single to left center to score Wilkerson. L. Johnson then followed with a double of his own to score Mays. A pop up to second sent the game to the bottom of the third.
A ground out from L. Johnson to Morrow recorded the first out. A single to short right center put the  next batter on, but two more strikeouts didn't allow the Comanches anything. The Mustangs lead 3-0 after three.

The Mustangs were still having trouble at the plate. Back to back strikeouts set two Mustangs down. Z. Johnson drew a walk and stole second to get into scoring position, but a ground out got the third out.
Bradley Cornell took over behind the plate to start the bottom of the fourth, and the rest of the Mustangs shifted into their normal positions. A strikeout and a ground out from Wilkerson, now at second, to L. Johnson got the first two outs. A walk followed by two singles allowed a run to score for WT. A dropped third strike had the final out on a tag out by Cornell. After 4, the score was 3-1.

The Mustangs finally got their bats going in the top of the fifth. Wilkerson got things going with a double to left center. Skarke was able to reach on a dropped third strike. Mays had a sacrifice fly to center that scored Wilkerson. L. Johnson followed with a single to score Skarke. An error by the left fielder had Cornell on board. A Mullins' single to left scored L. Johnson and Cornell. Morrow earned a base on balls that had WT changing pitchers. Z. Johnson was the first batter to face the new pitcher and rocked a double to center to score Mullins and Morrow. A fielder's choice ground out from Peden scored Z. Johnson. Wilkerson came back up and hit a single to left center. The Mustang run was ended on a caught foul pop-up.
The Mustangs got a strikeout before a hit by pitch put the first runner on. A single to short center put aboard another runner. An error allowed one run to cross the plate. Another batter reached on a walk before the Mustangs got their two final outs courtesy of a Skarke strikeout and a ground out from Wilkerson to L. Johnson. The score after five was 10-2.

A fly out to center got the fist out of the sixth inning. L. Johnson reached on a walk, followed by a double from Cornell to center to score L. Johnson. While Mullins was at bat, Cornell was able to reach home on a passed ball. Mullins eventually reached when he drew a walk, and then he stole second to get into scoring position. A strikeout had the second out before Z. Johnson got his second double of the game to right center that scored Mullins. An error on the shortstop brought Peden to the bases that scored Z. Johnson. Wilkerson hit a single down the left field line to score Peden. A caught pop up behind second retired the sides.
A ground out from Peden to L. Johnson and a strikeout from Skarke got two quick outs in the bottom of the sixth. A walk and a single got WT runners into scoring position, but a strikeout for the final out ended the game. Mustangs won 15-2.

Skarke ended the day with 9 strikeouts. Wilkerson went 4 for 5 at the plate, hitting two doubles. Also hitting doubles for the Mustangs were Z. Johnson with two, Skarke, L. Johnson, and Cornell. After three games the Mustangs were 2-1 in district.

Mustangs fall to Booker

The Booker game that was moved due to weather was played on Wednesday, April 27. One day after the Clarendon game, the Mustangs traveled to Booker.

Zach Johnson got things started for the Mustangs by reaching on a base on balls. However, two strikeouts and a line out to center didn't allow for much base running.
Tate Wilkerson started on the mound for the Mustangs with Bradley Cornell behind the plate. The first three Booker batters all reached on walks to juice the bases. The next batter flew out to left fielder Bailey Morrow, but it scored a run. The next two batters put the ball into the air to be caught by shortstop Tyler Peden and center fielder Z. Johnson to end the inning. After 1, the score was 0-1.

A ground out started the top of the 2nd, before Maison Mays tripled to right field. Teron Webb came to the plate, after a strikeout for out two, and singled to center to score Mays. A strikeout retired the side.
The first batter for Booker had an infield single to reach. A sac bunt advanced the runner but had the batter out on a throw from Cornell to first baseman Seth Skarke. A fly out caught by Z. Johnson recorded out number two. A batter walked to have two on, before a double to right scored another run for the Kiowas. Webb caught a fly ball in right to go to the 3rd inning. The score after 2 was 1-2.

The Mustangs went down easy in the top of the third with only Peden reaching on a walk. Three strikeouts sent the Mustangs into the bottom of the 3rd.
Wilkerson came out strong striking out two batters. A hit by pitch and a single had two runners on, before a ground out from Cornell to Skarke. The score remained 1-2.

Cornell drew a base on balls to begin the fourth, and then stole 2nd after a Mustang strikeout. L. Johnson doubled to left to have two runners in scoring position. Webb hit a sacrifice fly to score Cornell. Morrow took 4 balls to get on before a strikeout stopped another run crossing.
A single put the first batter on the bags. A single by the next batter and an error allowed a run to score for Booker. A fly ball caught by Z. Johnson had the first out. A hit by pitch was followed by a line ball caught by Webb. An error on a ball hit by the next batter allowed two runners to cross the plate. The next batter flew out to Morrow for the third out. After 4, the score was 2-5.

Peden singled to right to start the Mustangs. A pop out recorded the first out. An error by the second baseman allowed Skarke to reach and Peden to score. Cornell doubled to center to score Skarke. A new pitcher came in for the Kiowas. Facing the new pitcher, Mays was hit by a pitch. L. Johnson reached on a fielder's choice that found everyone safe. Webb came next and reached on an error by the shortstop that scored Cornell and Mays. Morrow hit into a fielder's choice that had Webb out at 2nd. Z. Johnson drew a walk to have bases loaded. Unfortunately a line drive ended the Mustang run.
Two singles jump started Booker. A sac bunt recorded the first out, followed by a strikeout. A single  to center scored two. Two more singles allowed two more runs to cross. A ground out from Peden to Skarke ended the inning. The score after 5 was 6-9.

The Mustangs went down 1-2-3 with a fly out, a line out, and a ground out to send the game into the bottom of 6.
A strikeout got the 1st out for the Mustangs. An error allowed the next batter to reach, before a single scored the runner. L. Johnson took over on the mound.  The next batter reached on an infield single. A line out to Webb had the second out, but a run scored. A ground ball to Skarke got the last out. Entering the last inning the score was 6-11.

The top of the 7th started with a pop out to short. L. Johnson got on with a walk, followed by two singles from Webb and Morrow. L. Johnson scored on passed ball, with Webb and Morrow moving up a base. A strikeout made out number 2. Peden doubled to center to score Webb. Morrow was sent home, but the center fielder threw him out at home to end to the game. The final score was 8-11.

Wilkerson had 4 strikeouts. L. Johnson, Cornell, and Peden had a double each for the Mustangs, and Mays had a triple.
